Regular and irregular migrants, remain at risk of exploitation in NZ: Slavery Index
The Global Slavery Index 2016 done by The Walk Free Foundation has this to say for the entire Asia-Pacific region. "All countries within the Asia-Pacific exhibit some pre-conditions to modern slavery."
"an estimated 800 people are living in modern slavery in New Zealand"
"Though countries like Australia and New Zealand exhibit high levels of development, stability and strong policies, some minority groups, including regular and irregular migrants, remain at risk of exploitation," it adds.
Though, to be sure, the report does goes on to say that New Zealand along with Australia and Philippines, does have the strongest responses to modern slavery. "These countries have reasonably strong victim support services, specialised law enforcement units, effective and measurable NAPs, and laws, policies and programmes that address cycles of vulnerability," it says.
